The study „Welcome to Lower Saxony“ is a panel survey for all persons who migrate to Lower Saxony from abroad in the year 2015. These people will be interviewed three times: The first interview takes place shortly after their arrival. The second one is due six months later and the third interview twelve months later. Overall, the survey covers a period of 18 months. During this period a number of migrants will have settled in Lower Saxony and some will have moved back to their home country or another country. All those groups shall be part of the second and third survey. This is the only way that gives specific information about how to improve the culture of welcoming migrants to Lower Saxony.
For the first survey, all randomly selected persons will receive a letter via mail containing information on the survey, the questionnaire and a stamped return envelope. The questionnaire is translated into the participant’s mother tongue. The questionnaire is 20 pages long and it will take little time to complete. But we need all the information asked because it is relevant for understanding integration in all its different facets.
In the first survey contact details will be requested on a separate sheet (e.g. home address, telephone number), so that the participants can be contacted for the second and third survey. All contact details will be deleted at the end of our study.
Furthermore, we want to point at particular feature of the study: All respondents will get a small compensation for their participation: A five Euro bill is enclosed with every questionnaire to thank the respondents for the time they spent answering the questions.
The questionnaires for the second and third survey will be sent via mail. But the participant has the opportunity to complete the questionnaires via internet as well. At the end of 2017, a research report, summarizing the results from all surveys, will be published on this website and will be available for download.
Specifically for persons participating in the first survey we have compiled frequently asked questions here.
